The alleged Atiq Ahmed earlier revealed his concern about how he could be killed by the UP police while being handed over to Prayagraj.
The cause and effects
The gangster turned Politian Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf was killed in front of the UP police force and media right after performing their son Asad Ahmed’s last rite. The age-old political tension took pace in the 2004 elections that elected Atiq Ahmed as a Lok Sabha member representing the Samajwadi party at Phulpur. However, his brother Ashraf failed to constitute in the Allahabad West Assembly elections losing the seat to the BSP representative Raju Pal.
Defeating the politicians on their grounds bruised their pride sprouting a sense of revenge in them. On the eve of Republic Day in 2005, the BSP MLA was overrun by an SUV and was suddenly charged with gunshots from either side killing him on the spot. The CBI named 10 accused that included Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf, and Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was cited as a shooter.
This aggravated Ashraf’s political fame which could not be regained. To avenge this, Atiq Ahmed abducted and threatened the key witness of the Raju Pal murder case, Umesh Pal to confess in favor of them in the court. However, such an action drew a life sentence for the two for being accused of abduction.
Umesh Pal was later killed on February 24th due to his demeaning loyalty showcased to either Atiq or his rival, the Karwariya family. The murder later staged a heated debate where the UP CM Yogi Adityanath condemned the Samajwadi Party for choosing mafia leaders as their representatives.
