In India, over 1 crore applicants strive yearly to secure their dream ‘permanent career’ in the Indian railway jobs. The Indian railway career being the largest employer in India has employed job aspirants through the RRB exams conducted by the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) and the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), established in 1998.

The Indian railway’s recruitment board annually organizes the Indian railway recruitment examinations receiving over 1.2 crore applications for Non-technical Popular Categories (NTPC), 47.45 lakh for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP), 10 lakh for Junior Engineer (JE), and 1.15 crore for Group D exams. But why do job applicants aspire to appear for RRB exams?

Qualifying to work as an Indian railways employment secures one’s service life, future, and family income with the government pension scheme. And they are also entitled to receive residential amenities, DA, TA, HRA, grade pay, travel allowance, medical insurance, and other bonuses.

What is the process involved in applying for RRB exams?

• Visit the Indian railway recruitment official website to receive the RRB application form that the Railway Recruitment Board releases annually regarding Indian railways posts and salary.
• Click on the “new registration tab” to carefully read the instructions enlisted before filling out the required information (namely name, date of birth, birth parent’s name, Aadhaar number, SSLC registration number, year of graduation, mobile number, and email ID) as per requested.
• Prepare requested documents (passport-size photo, signature, SC/ST certificate, and scribe photograph) in JPEG format.
• Once the application procedure is complete proceed to pay the application fee either through the offline mode ( SBI bank Challan, Post office Challan, etc) or the online mode (Debit or credit card, UPI or net banking, etc).

List of RRB exams 2023

The following list contains the Indian railway new recruitment exam notifications for exam dates, exam patterns, and eligibility criteria.

1.0 RRB exam: NTPC

With over 24,605 vacancies, candidates can qualify for the Indian railway new vacancy by attending the 90-minute RRB Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) exams that are curated in a format that consists of 5 stages in the RRB NTPC exam that include Computer Based Test 1 (CBT preliminary), Computer Based Test 2 (CBT main exam), Typing speed test, document verification, and medical exam. The exam pattern for the Computer Based Test (CBT) 1 and 2 includes 3 sections mainly:
• Mathematics
• General intelligence and reasoning
• General Awareness

1.1 RRB NTPC exam dates

• The RRB NTPC notification for Indian railway new recruitment exams was released on February 2023,
• the last date to complete the online registration process was scheduled on March 2023, and
• the last date to apply online and application payment is on April 2023,
• the RRB NTPC admit card will be released on May 2023,
• the RRB NTPC CBT 1 and 2 exams will be conducted between June to December 2023.

1.2 RRB NTPC exam: eligibility criteria

Age limit: 18 to 33 years of age
Education: 12th pass or equivalent for junior posts including accounts clerk cum typist, clerk cum typist, timekeeper, and trains clerk.
Graduate or equivalent from a reputed university for senior posts including Commercial apprentice, station master, goods guard, senior clerk cum typist, senior timekeeper, senior commercial cum ticket clerk, senior commercial cum ticket clerk, and traffic assistant.

 

2.0 RRB ALP exam

With over 43,500 vacancies available for the RRB Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician (ALP) jobs. Aspirants who apply for the ALP exams for the Indian railway qualification undergo a selection process that mandates applicants to score above the cut-off mark for exams including the CBT 1, CBT 2, computer-based aptitude test, and document verification. The exam pattern syllabus for the total of 250 questions that follow includes:

CBT 1 (75 questions)

• Arithmetic
• Reasoning
• General Awareness
• General Science

CBT 2 (175 questions)

• Basic science and engineering
• Mathematics
• General intelligence and reasoning
• General knowledge of current affairs
• Test of relevant trade

2.1 RRB ALP exam dates

• The RRB ALP notification RRB Indian railway exams were released on the 24th of March 2023,
• the starting application date to apply for the exam is placed on the 4th of April 2023 and
• the final date for application completion is stated to be on the 6th of May 2023.

2.2 RRB ALP exam: eligibility criteria

Age limit: The lower age limit is 18 years and the upper age limit for the general category is 42 years, 45 years for OBC applicants and 47 years for SC/ST candidates
Education: 10th pass and ITI-certified applicants are eligible to apply for the ALP application form. ITI or apprenticeship passed in trade for Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Electronics mechanic, wireman, etc, or a diploma in mechanical/ electrical/ electronics/ automobiles engineering form ITI

3.0 RRB Group D exams

With an expected 1 lakh vacancies, applicants applying for the 90-minute RRB Group D exams to qualify for the vacancy in the railway board that contain 3 selection stages: CBT, PET, and document verification. The exam pattern syllabus for the Group D exam includes:
Computer-Based Test (100 marks)
• Mathematics
• General Science
• General Intelligence and reasoning
• General awareness and current affairs
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is conducted to test the candidates to meet the physical metric designed by the RRB qualification.

3.1RRB Group D exam dates

The RRB Group D exam notifications including the online registration, application, fee payment, and exam dates are yet to be announced for the 2023 Indian railway government job

3.2 RRB Group D: Eligibility criteria

Age limit: 18 – 33 years and the age relaxation for the general category is 33 years, 36 years for OBC- non-creamy category, and 38 years for SC/ST category.
Education: Indian nationals are certified with a 10th pass, an ITI qualification, or should have a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) approved by the NCVT.

4.0 RRB JE exams

Over an estimated vacancy count of 13,000 are available for the Indian railways jobs apply online. The candidates applying for the Junior Engineer exams have to pass the exam levels: CBT stage 1 of 90 minutes and CBT stage 2 of 120 minutes. The Computer Based Test (CBT) 1 and 2 cover the following subjects:

4.1 RRB JE exam dates

The RRB JE exam notification including the CBT 1, and CBT2 exam dates, online registration, application payment, submission, and the result are yet to be announced for the year 2023 vacancy in the railway board.

4.2 RRB JE: Eligibility criteria

Age limit: 18 to 33 years with age relaxation for SC/ST by 5 years, OBC non-creamy layer by 3 years, PwBD unreserved by 10 years, PwBD for OBC non-creamy layer by 13 years, and PwBD for SC/ST by 15 years.
Education: Being qualified from a reputed university certification in BSc in civil engineering, PGDCA or B.Sc in computer science, BCA, B.Tech in Information technology, B.Tech in computer science, or a 3 years diploma degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation and control engineering, Computer science or engineering. B.Sc in Civil Engineering.
