Work With Us
The Puma brand was founded in 1929 in Argentina by “Compaa General de Combustibles S.A.” CGC was founded in 1920 to transport and market crude oil and its byproducts across the country. Between 1930 and 1996, the Puma brand’s profile in the Argentine market increased due to an increase in the number of retail locations and advertising investments. After CGC established Puma service stations in Ecuador to supplement its crude oil exploration activities, the Puma brand quickly spread.
CGC merged with the other two local oil companies, Astra and Isaura, to form “Eg3” in 1994. Despite this, the company only lasted two years as a private enterprise before being acquired in 1997 by Spanish Repsol (which already owned 33% of Astra after purchasing it for US$360 million). Repsol kept the Eg3 brand and stations, but sold the company to the Brazilian corporation Petrobras for $1 billion two years later. The Brazilian company dissolved Eg3, renaming all 800 of its stations Petrobras.
